Adopt a Shelf!
If you have a regular hour or two per week, you can select a portion of our stacks (books, audiobooks, music, etc.) and be responsible for keeping it ship shape! If you are interested in taking our shelving test, you may also be able to reshelve materials in your area. Time commitment: 1 – 10 hours per week, regular.
Adult services assistant:
This volunteer will pull damaged books, search for lost books, assist with programs for adults like book discussion groups, author readings, lectures, etc. Time commitment: five hours per week (could be ten hours every other week.)
Adult programs assistant:
Help us set up and publicize the library’s activities for adults: book groups, author readings, film showings, speaker events, and Family Fun Night. May also involve posting flyers around UW and Laramie. At least three hours per month, more as activities are scheduled. Time commitment: varied, dependant on timing of events, possibly 4-5 hours per event.
Book Shelver:
If you have an hour or two per week, you can help us reshelve books and other materials returned by library patrons. Get to know the collection inside and out! Passage of shelving test, and regular hours are required for this position. Time commitment: 1 – 10 hours per week; regular.
Centennial Branch Assistant:
This volunteer will provide reference and circulation services one day a week at the library branch in Centennial, WY. Time commitment: four hours per week.
Inventory Assistant:
Under the direction of a librarian, this volunteer will scan books on shelves in our online database, noting items that are not in the correct location. Time commitment: 2-5 hours per week.
Inter-library loans assistant:
This volunteer will perform varied jobs relating to items we receive from and send to other libraries: Cutting and sorting address labels, opening packages, sorting and labeling books etc. This work is variable. Time commitment: mornings; some weeks there may not much to do; we may call other weeks to see if the volunteer has a number of hours to give.
Lost and found:
This volunteer will go through our lost and found boxes once monthly and take useful items to the Salvation Army. Time commitment: three hours per month.

Scrapbook Volunteer (library staff scrapbook):
This volunteer will compile and mounts clippings and other items to go into the scrapbook recording library staff news.. Time commitment: 5 hours per month.
Tax Preparation Volunteer:
Volunteers are needed between mid-January and April 15 to help people file their income tax returns. No previous experience is necessary, and complete training is provided for this IRS sponsored program. After training, volunteers help an average of 8 hours a month during the tax season. Tech Services assistant:
This volunteer will perform various jobs relating to getting books and other materials ready to put on the library’s shelves: putting on plastic spine covers, barcode attachment, stamping and taping, etc. This work is variable. Time commitment: Some weeks there may not much to do; we may call other weeks to see if the volunteer has a number of hours to give.
